AC2: Problem Solving

 Chosen Idea:

My finalised chosen idea is ‘musical Carathasis within the digital age.” My documentary shall be centred around the history of catharsis and the ever long lasting important relationship that the human race shares with the concept and beauty of the realisement of negative emotions. Music can help bring so much joy and closure to so many people around the world. Millions of people seek a form of escapism from their realities, the digital era has allowed more music to spread, shared and liked across the world.

The beauty of modern technology allows many people of today to  access that kind of cathartic escapism. The reason why I chose this idea out of all the others was because it’s a very unexplored and very un-realised concept and ideology within our society. Music catharsis could never be more important than what it is now. Due to the on-going spread of mental health within the young generation (victimised by social media) Which is moreover explained within my research, on previous learner aim number 1.

I believe like this topic is a worthwhile topic to discuss and analyse, as I many people within my social group and outside of it (vere the internet) have felt back on to music within their darkest or troubled times of their life. Music is beautiful within the sense, it can bring closure and realtibilty for many other people. Those who have mental illness especially have proven from my further studies that they benefit heavily from the cathartic realisement that music can bring to them. Whether that is through the relatable and grounded lyrics, or the instrumentation within itself.

Refine my Idea:

My interview space is going to look like something like this. It shall be suited above the top floor of media building within the media studio.  The reason to why I choose this environment specially to interview the interviewee within was because I wanted my documentary quality to be the best of best of what it can be. As i want my documentary to stand out within the the field of amateurish low-budget filled documentary studies. This is important because my audience/consumer deserves the highest quality content that they can possibly get their hands on. The main sources of lighting I will be using is the box standard quality set up of lighting that all basic video productions use.

These are basic set ups of the 'live action' part of my video. the rest of my video shall be all voice over With background images related to the documentary's overall topic focus. The reason to why I choose to use 80% voice-over instead of live action scale location shooting and filming etc. is because I know that my budget and overall time, effort and efficacy was going to be hindered. Due to the uncertain times of Covid-19 and the in-convince of social distancing I had to improvise/compromise my original  plan fro my documentary. Making it shorter and less pressured to scout out for suitable/relevant  locations etc., allows much greater flexibility and time management for my overall study and video analysis of 'musical catharsis'

Also this will link to my problem solving criteria very well as using my imagination to help solve my problem of not being able to move and transport around as much to shoot what i wanted to shoot oringally. Plus, overall my documentary will much more focused and pin-pointed overall. This is good for my potential audience/viewer as they come to expect documentaries to the point, sharp, and prices. Which is more than they want to see within a documentary.

All equipment (despite maybe the camera) is all supplied by the colleges film studio upstairs. The reason why i choose the Canon 1200d is because it still features some very impressive specifications for a beginner camera and represents excellent value for time, efficacy and money. It has a 18MP, ASP-C sized sensor kits at the heart of the camera, with a DIGIC 4 processor. It also comes with an external microphone import which will be extremely beneficial when it will come to recording my interviewee's voice and the narrator's voice overs.

Meeting the brief:

I have full confidence that my idea will meet the brief because my topic subject, (Whom that I've chosen) is a very unique and interesting theme of topic that not many have really analysed or went into to full documentary depth before. I think it effects all of our lively hoods in the way we think, feel, perceive, debate, discuss and argue about things. Music can be the the the most powerful message and anthem that can be unleashed out there, even more tide-turning than common politics at hand. Music is a way of life for many others and the attachment of the spiritualness of it is incredibly moving. Mental health is a a huge problem and difficult realm to tackle within Morden day society, yet technology access us to thousands apron variety of music. Carthasim has never been able to be accessed so easily, cheaply and openly than ever before. Music gives us the necessary medicine to live with life. This is important as to support my confidence within this project that i have put forward for culture project. I believe that my idea does meet the criteria as produced within the final brief as it links with the most pinical point of our society. Technology and music each share a power of healing and beneficial empowerment, and one's individual self escapism.
